Born in a small village in Siwan (Bihar), Firoz Ahmed studied in a village school before sucessfullly competing in the PU joint entrance exam (Biotech). He graduated from BN College of Patna University with Honours in Biotechnology. After that he moved to Aligarh Muslim University for pursuing Master's in Biotechnology. Fuelled by his desire of contributing to Human life welfare he joined the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh Currently he is serving as Junior Research Fellow in the field of Bioinformatics under the supervision of Dr. G.P.S. Raghava in the Institute of Microbial Technology.

Proteomics & computational biology with reference to machine learning languages, data mining & database management & various other techniques used in bioinformatics.

Present Status::

Presently working as a Project Assistant in DBT funded project entitled “Bioinformatics: Protein engineering and Designing” in IMTECH for last one & a half year. Working on machine learning techniques using Perl programming language.

Previous Assignments ::

She has done her B.Sc. in Microbiology and M.Sc.in Biotechnology also with B.Ed from Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, India. Also have pursued PG diploma in Bioinformatics from BII, Noida.

Upgrade software and configure network switches, router, modem. configuration and deployment of wireless network. Administering and monitoring antivirus server, firewall. Deployment and monitoring of network through DSLAM-ADSL facilitates the simultaneous use of normal telephone services, ISDN, and high speed data transmission, e.g. video. To provide training with updation of state of technology.

Mr. Rakesh Kaundal

Area of Interest ::

Comparative genomics, protein engineering & modeling, plant genomics, host-pathogen interaction in plants through bioinformatics approaches, plant molecular biology, and forecasting plant diseases through latest machine learning techniques.

Present Status::

Serving under the DBT sponsored project Bioinformatics: Protein Engineering and Design. Working on prediction of protein subcellular localizations of rice and Arabidopsis. Developed support vector machines based web server for prediction of rice blast disease for general use to Plant Pathologists and farming community.

Previous Assignments ::

He did B.Sc.(Agri.) & M.Sc.(Agri.) with specialization in Plant Breeding & Genetics from CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur (H.P.) India. He also has Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics from Sikkim Manipal University. Further, he has about five years experience of serving as Research Associate for World Bank sponsored project Development of weather based forewarning systems for crop pests and diseases. There he developed operational forewarning systems of rice blast for the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Presently, he is pursuing Ph.D. in Plant Breeding & Genetics (likely to complete) studying genetics and tagging of blast resistance gene(s) in rice.

During his summer training he learned molecular biology techniques such as PCR, Restriction digestion ,Tissue culture, SDS-PAGE, Agrose Gel Electrophoresis, HPLC, ELISA and Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis in AIIMS, N.Delhi.After that he joined Ph.D in IMTECH Chandigarh under supervision of Dr. Raghava in Feb. 2001.Development of a comprehensive database on MHC Binding and Non-Binding Peptides along with Harpreet Singh and Amit Kush. .

Mr. Harpreet Kaur

Structural Biology, Genomics and function of non-coding RNAs.

Present Status::

2008-present:Bioinformatican at Enright Group, European Bioinformatics Institute, Cambridge, UK. Currently, I am involved in developing tools for genomic analysis of small RNAs including the gene prediction, promoters and orthology mapping. I am also involved in the miRNA targets predictions from a large scale gene expression data.

Previous Assignments ::

2004-2006: Post-doctoral Fellow with Prof. Daniel Fischer at the Computer Science and Engineering Department, University of Buffalo, USA. During this period, I worked on predicting the structure and function of ORFans sequences in Bacillus and Mimivirus genomes. 2006-2008: Post-doctoral Fellow with Dr. Anton Enright at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Cambridge, UK. During this period, I worked on predicting the primary transcripts and promoters of miRNA genes in mammalian genomes. Presently working as project assistant (Level II) on DBT funded project entitled ?Protein Bioinformatics and Design? under the supervision of Dr. G. P. S. Raghava, Scientist and Co-ordinator of Bioinformatics Centre. Currently he is implementing various machine learning approaches for prediction of Transcription Factor Binding Sites in eukaryotes.
