GWBLAST is a webserver intended for the objective of aiding researchers in their quest for sequence similarity searching and analysis on a genome wide scale.

GWBLAST is an integrative web server using BLAST algorithms for similarity searching against genomes of various organisms or their products (proteins). The output is a table summarizing BLAST output for different genomes or their products. The server provides following options on BLAST output; (i) extraction and multiple alignment of sequences using CLUSTALW, (ii) viewing the alignment using MView program, (iii) editing and analyses of aligned sequences with Jalview / AMAS or PSA, (iv) compositional analysis of selected proteins, (v) viewing of phylogenetic tree using web server PHYLODENDRON.

The locally maintained databases consists of ~70 genomes of completely sequenced and unfinished microbes including a few eukaryotic genomes. Most of the sequence files have been obtained from sequence database like NCBI. The GWBLAST searches not only the genomic sequence of any particular organism selected but also against its plasmid, if any available. The proteome of the available sequenced genomes were obtained from the `annotation' details that is available in the genomic sequence data. Incompletely sequenced genomes may be lacking these information, therefore such organisms may not be included for proteome search.

A detailed help file is available at http://www.imtech.res.in/gwblast/help.html. To know more about the GWBLAST server and its aims and objective go to http://www.imtech.res.in/gwblast/about.html.
