Eligibility

1.  Candidates with a Master's Degree (M.Sc./M.Tech/M.Pharm) with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent in CGPA in any branch of Science or Technology OR B.Tech (in Information Technology/ Computer Sciences/ Biological Sciences or other branches with a special interest in Biology) OR B. Pharm OR B.E. OR MBBS candidates with at least 55 % (or equivalent in CGPA) may apply. The minimum aggregate of marks in case of SC/ST/Differently-abled candidates are 50% (or equivalent in CGPA).

2.  A valid and tenable Fellowship. Candidates having any of the valid fellowship from CSIR-UGC NET (NET-LS not eligible)/DBT-JRF examination (‘A’ Category only)/DST-INSPIRE Fellowship/ICMR-JRF examination are eligible to apply. Candidates selected for working only in ICMR Projects are not eligible. B.Tech/BE/B.Pharm students with valid GATE or GPAT score must fulfill the conditions for GATE-JRF fellowship (https://csirhrdg.res.in/Home/Index/1/Default/2774/58). Admission of candidates having DST-INSPIRE fellowship shall stand canceled in case the candidate fails to obtain fellowship from DST. CSIR-IMTech will not provide any financial support to such candidates. Please note that valid proofs of Fellowship examinations are mandatory for appearing in the interview.

3. Candidates must also state their present occupation, if any, in the AcSIR application. Any concealment may result in the cancellation of admission at any stage.

Selection Process

The eligible candidates will be called for an interview either in person at CSIR-IMTech, Chandigarh, or through online mode. The interview will be aimed at assessing the candidate’s knowledge, critical analysis, logical reasoning and aptitude for scientific research. The result of the selected candidates will be declared on AcSIR website. The fee for the PhD program is as per AcSIR fee structure.

In case the interviews are in person at CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh, those appearing for the interview must be prepared to stay in Chandigarh for three days, which is the approximate time required to finalize the process. No TA/DA or any other expenses will be paid for appearing in the interview.

Note: 

1.      The document verification process cannot be followed in the web-mode interviews.  All shortlisting, selection, etc. would be provisional subject to verification of all relevant documents. In case of any deficiency of any type in the documents, the candidature would automatically stand cancelled any time on finding such a deficiency.

2.      In case of selection, admission of candidates shall be provisional subject to the condition that they shall obtain a fellowship for a period of five years from a funding agency. In case candidates fail to receive fellowship, admission stands cancelled.

Important Instructions:

 1.     There shall be two rounds of interviews.

1^st round of interview: 4^th November, 2022; Mode: Online

2^nd round of interview: 16^th & 17^th November, 2022  17th & 18th November 2022; Mode: In person

 ·       MS Teams link and time slot to attend the 1st round of online interview will be shared via email with only those candidates who will submit CV and SOP. Format of SOP has been sent via email.

·       Those who will clear first round of interview shall be invited for second round of interview. The second round of interview shall be conducted in person at CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh on 16th & 17th November, 2022  17th & 18th November 2022. Kindly plan your travel in advance.

·       After 1st round of interview, a list of shortlisted candidates for 2nd round of interview shall be available on institute website at https://www.imtech.res.in/events/phd-admission---jan-session-2023/284. These candidates shall also be informed by email.

2.     All the candidates will be assessed for their knowledge, critical analysis and logical reasoning.

3.     In case of online mode of interview, candidates shall ensure the Internet Connectivity, Web Cam & necessary software at their end to attend the interview. AcSIR/IMTECH shall not be responsible for any connectivity failure or communication faults in the Web-mode interview.

4.     Candidates must send the following documents in single PDF file by email to coordinator.imt@acsir.res.in

a) Fellowship award letter/GATE/GPAT score card (whichever applicable).

b) Mark sheets of the latest examination for those Candidates who are in the final year of MSc/qualifying examination.

c) Caste/ EWS/ Physically handicapped certificates (if applicable).

d) No objection Certificate for appearing in interview and joining PhD course at CSIR-IMTECH from your employer/existing PI/institute (if applicable). Non-disclosure will lead to cancellation of PhD admission.

5.     Candidates must confirm for attending the interview by sending the Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a Statement of Purpose (SOP) in word files by email to coordinator.imt@acsir.res.in immediately, not later than 31^st October, 2022. These documents if sent in PDF file will not be considered.

6.     The details of interview will be intimated only to those eligible candidates who will submit CV and SOP on time.

7.     Since document verification process cannot be followed in the web-mode interviews, all shortlisting, selection etc. would be provisional subject to verification of all relevant documents. In case of any deficiency of any type in the documents, the candidature would automatically stand cancelled any time on finding such a deficiency.

8.     Candidates eligible for DST-INSPIRE fellowship and CSIR’s JRF-GATE have been shortlisted provisionally for interview. However, admission to AcSIR-IMTECH PhD programme will be considered final only after obtaining fellowships from DST or CSIR, whichever applicable.

Important Instructions - Round II Interview

Information and Instructions for Second round of interview for admission to AcSIR-IMTECH PhD program (January, 2023 session)

(Only for those candidates who have cleared first round of interview)

•   Second round of interview, shall be held in person from 17^th to 18^th November, 2022.
• Candidates have to report on 17^th November, 2022 at CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh, sharp 8:30 am.
•  Candidates need to bring the following documents for attending the interview:

1. The certificates for date of birth and SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH issued by the competent authority and award letter for JRF fellowship from funding agencies (such as CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/DST-INSPIRE etc.) are required to be produced in original. B.Tech/B.E./B.Pharma candidates are required to produce original valid GATE/GPAT score card. A set of self-attested copies of these may also be brought.
2. Candidates should bring final degree certificate or provisional certificate along with detailed mark sheet(s)/transcripts showing the final percentage. Candidates are expected to convert their CGPA into percentage according to the formula as per their university rules. Candidates with awaited results may also appear for interview subject to meeting all other eligibility criteria. If selected, the candidate will have to produce proof of degree, latest by the time of joining.
3. Candidates must also state their present occupation/employment/enrollment, if any, before the interview and should produce no objection certificate (NOC) accordingly.
4. Industry/Academic/Research Institute sponsored candidates are required to bring endorsement from respective employer explicitly mentioning the period of academic leave and financial support that includes salary and contingency etc., if any.

• No TA/DA shall be paid to the shortlisted candidates for attending the interview. Candidates are supposed to make their own arrangements for accommodation to attend the interview.
• Candidates who are coming for interview must be prepared to be present in Chandigarh for two days (17^th to 18^th November, 2022). 
•  Result of second round of interview shall be available on AcSIR Portal as per schedule mentioned over there.
