About IMTechCenter for Animal Resources and Experimentation (iCARE)

The state-of-the-art barrier-maintained iCARE at IMTECH was established in 1988. It spreads over 30,000 sq. ft. and built in compliance with CPCSEA guidelines. The facility is registered with the CPCSEA vide approval No. 55/GO/ReRcBiBt/99/CPCSEA. The facility spreads over three floors and is designed for accommodating mice, rats, guinea pig, rabbits, hamsters and egg laying hens. The facility has all the essential requisites for modern Animal Facility including individually ventilated cage systems (IVCs), Cage change station, Bedding disposal station, dedicated sterilizer etc. Facility also maintains modular amenities such as Fluorescence Tomography (Small animal whole body imaging system), Laser Doppler Blood Flow Meter, Auto analysers for Haematology and Blood Biochemistry, laboratories for genetic and health monitoring of laboratory animals.

 Unique features of the facility

  • CPCSEA, Govt. of India accredited breeding and experimentation facility
  • Facility maintains 16 strains of mice (inbred, transgenic & knock-out), one stock each of rats, hamsters and rabbits in different rooms
  • Adequate infrastructure and space for isolation of experiments on different species of animals
  • Well-equipped areas to handle inbred, transgenic/knockout, disease and surgical models
  • Equipped with Animal Bio-safety Level II (BSL II) laboratory for working on infectious agents
  • Dedicated service corridor for better barrier management
  • Independent AHU for different areas and quarantine room
  • Facility is constructed / segregated in such a way to provide dedicated places and services to clients as per their requirements.
  • The facility is under electronic surveillance with CCTV cameras and only authorized persons is allowed in the facility through biometric access

About Workshop

The course will provide both theoretical and practical training in the area of Laboratory Animal Science which will increase the employability and entrepreneurial potential of candidates for the Biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Focus Area

Course curriculum will cover areas of basics of biology and husbandry practices of laboratory animals, Regulatory guidelines of CPCSEA/IAEC, Record keeping, Animal welfare, Breeding of laboratory animals,  Environmental enrichment, Animal feed and nutritional requirement, Experimental techniques viz. handling, sexing, injections/immunization, blood collection, anaesthesia, euthanasia etc., Surgical techniques, pre and post-operative care, Biosafety and occupational hazards, Diseases of laboratory animals, Genetic and health monitoring of animals etc., Biostatistics in animal research and Import of laboratory animals. Focus on current needs of training in management of Animal Facility for the Pharmaceutical industry

Targeted Participants

The content of the workshop has been designed to benefit the professionals (and future professionals) from the academia and the industries. Recent B. Sc. / M. Sc. / B. Pharma / M. Pharma / B. V. Sc. & AH / M. V. Sc. / M. B. B. S. / M. Tech / Ph. D students along with industry personnel shall be specially benefitted from the course.

Registration Fee includes food, accommodation on twin-sharing basis and course material.

There are limited seats in this workshop.Selected candidates will be intimated by email separately detailing about fee submission and other related formalities. Registration forms will only be entertained if "Letter of Consent" is forwarded to neeraj@imtech.res.in endorsed by the respective head of department (current/last attended) or PhD supervisor/guide or Principal Investigatoror Dean/ Director of the university/institute.
